Here are some of our favorite books that came out on Wednesday, April 9th!

All New Doop #1ALL NEW DOOP #1 (OF 5) ANMN
(W) Peter Milligan (A) David Lafuente, Laura Allred (CA) Michael Allred

Living in the margins of the X-Men, Doop has freaked out X-Men and readers alike. However, when he gets deeply involved in X-Men business (and in the personal life of Kitty Pryde!), Doop will be thrust into the spotlight. This adventure will prove that Doop is, in fact, the most powerful X-Man! Written by co-creator Peter Milligan (X-FORCE), covers by co-creator Mike Allred (X-FORCE, FF) and innovative interior art by David Lafuente (AVENGERS, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN)!

Man, who doesn’t like Doop?! It’s about time they gave this guy his own series (well, mini-series)! With Peter Milligan at the helm of this series, we get a chance to see the weird and quirky side of the X-Men that we have not seen since the days of X-STATIX, one of the best X books of all times. This is a must read for any X-Men fan.

Flash Gordon #1FLASH GORDON #1
(W) Jeff Parker (A) Evan Shaner (CA) Gabriel Hardman

Flash Gordon never fit in on Earth. But on the bizarre planet MONGO, Flash’s thirst for thrills and daring danger makes him the perfect weapon against world-breaking Ming the Merciless and his awful inter-planetary swarms of terror! Can the cocksure Man From Earth funnel his overconfidence into saving worlds, or will the universe fall to Ming? Don’t miss out on THE most exciting ongoing series of 2014 by dream team Jeff Parker (Batman ’66, Aquaman), Evan “Doc” Shaner (Deadpool, Ghostbusters) and Jordie Bellaire (Pretty Deadly, Captain Marvel)!

Following up from where KINGS WATCH left off (but not necessary to get in on this!), Flash Gordon and company are on the run and at full throttle! Ming is not very happy with them, as they caused him to lose out on conquering Earth (and Ming does not lose well). Jeff Parker and the amazing Doc Shaner have done an amazing job with this debut issue. Any fans of this classic character should definitely check this book out!

Iron Fist The Living Weapon #1IRON FIST LIVING WEAPON #1 ANMN
(W/A/CA) Kaare Andrews

High above the city, in a multi-million dollar penthouse, Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist, “The Living Weapon,” is haunted by the consequences of choosing death over life. A message from Iron Fist’s mystical homeland of K’un-Lun brings Danny back to his blood soaked origin of betrayal and vengeance! Revenge is a weapon that cuts both ways…. Will Danny survive the bloodletting? A one-of-a-kind kung fu action epic directed by the inimitable Kaare Andrews!

Kaare Andrews has done something I thought would not be possible… follow up on the amazing IRON FIST series by Matt Fraction. This first issue sets a dire and tired tone, one in which Danny Rand is just going through the motions, bereft of feeling life, and then thrusts him into the life of death and danger… where he belongs. It’s good Kung Fu action!

Lumberjanes #1LUMBERJANES #1 (OF 8)
(W) Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis (A) Brooke A. Allen (CA) Noelle Stevenson

WHY WE LOVE IT: Five best friends spending the summer at Lumberjane scout camp…defeating yetis, thre-eeyed wolves, and giant falcons…what’s not to love?!

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: It’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Gravity Falls and features five buttkicking, rad teenager girls wailing on monsters and solving a mystery with the whole world at stake. And with the talent of acclaimed cartoonist Noelle Stevenson and talented newcomer Grace Ellis writing and Brooke Allen on art, this is going to be a spectacular series that you won’t want to miss.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley are five best pals determined to have an awesome summer together…and they’re not gonna let any insane quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! Not only is it the second title launching in our new BOOM! Box imprint but LUMBERJANES is one of those punk rock, love-everything-about-it stories that appeals to fans of basically all excellent things.

The world needs more books like this! It’s a crazy romp of a story, part “Cartoon Network” and part “Adult Swim” in it’s feel, that really excites the reader into frantically jumping through the pages. Although mostly a set up issue, it’s fast-paced and full off enough action that it easily balances with the exposition of story.

Honorable Mentions

Great opening scene, picking up from where the debut issue left off, and a ton more back story. This series is definitely shaping up to be a good one.

Um, it’s EAST OF WEST. It’s made of Awesome. Read it!

This book continues to impress me! Giffen, DeMatteis, and Porter have crafted a very different (yet familiar) view of the future that keeps me coming back for more.

A fantastic read! Fred Van Lente continues to amaze with this new re-imagining of one of the coolest Gold Key characters!

Thanks to the events in AMAZING X-MEN, Nightcrawler is back from the dead and better(?) than ever! The legendary Chris Claremont helms this book, setting up a tale that just screams “classic X-Men”.

Great start by Keatinge and Del Duca on what I hope is to be another fantastic Sci Fi series. If you like SAGA, give this book a try.
